The program has only been over for less than an hour as I write this, but here are some immediate reactions:

  • Most obvious ommissions: Actors – Frank Sinatra, Alec Guinness. Actresses – Myrna Loy, Olivia De Havilland.
  • Biggest surprises: Actors – Jimmy Stewart finishing 3rd instead of 1st; John Wayne out of the top ten. Actresses – Greta Garbo finishing 5th; Mae West making the list at all.
  • On the Classic Movies Top 25, but missing from the official results: Actors – William Powell, Frank Sinatra, Charlton Heston, Tyrone Power, Errol Flynn, Bob Hope. Actresses: Maureen O’Hara, Lucille Ball, Doris Day, Myrna Loy, Olivia De Havilland, Deborah Kerr.
  • Exact or within one spot of the position on the Classic Movies list: Actors – Sidney Poitier, Laurence Olivier, Jimmy Stewart, Cary Grant. Actresses – Judy Garland, Ingrid Bergman, Audrey Hepburn, Katharine Hepburn.
  • My most accurate prediction: Katharine Hepburn as #1 actress.
  • My least accurate prediction: That Lucille Ball would be on the list.
  • My biggest thrill: Bogie is #1!
  • My biggest disappointment: Barbara Stanwyck not in the top ten.
